If you've been raped or if you've experienced sexual violence or abuse

We understand that you may be feeling many different emotions. We're here to support you with the choices you make.

If you've experienced sexual violence or abuse in the last 10 days

If you've experienced sexual violence or abuse in the last 10 days it's important that you're seen as seen as soon as possible so we can take care of your health needs. (See "attending a clinic" below.)

You should also consider contacting a sexual assault referral centre (SARC). You can also contact a SARC about sexual violence and abuse which you've experienced at any time – not just during the last 10 days.

The Horizon Sexual Assault Referral Centre (SARC) provides medical, practical and emotional support. If the assault was within the last 10 days – or longer if you have visible injuries, e.g. bruising – a forensic examination can be arranged.

You do not have to report to the police if you attend the SARC – it's your choice. Specially trained staff can give you further information to help you to decide. They will support you, whatever your decision.

The SARC can also perform a forensic examination, which can help to provide evidence against the person who assaulted you. Forensic evidence can be collected and stored by the SARC to give you more time to make a decision about whether to report to the police.

You can call the Horizon 24-hour phone line on 0808 168 5698.

Children and Young People

If you're under 17 or 18 to 25 and you've been raped or experienced sexual violence or sexual assault, you can contact the West Midlands Regional Children and Young People Sexual Assault Service (CYPSAS) on 0808 196 2340.

Attending a clinic

We're here to help. If you've been raped or experienced sexual violence or sexual abuse at any time you may continue to book a clinic appointment with us, but if you text 07312 263287 or attend one of our clinics without an appointment you will be seen urgently.

You can be seen in any of our clinics, but you may want to attend the Abuse Survivors Clinic (ASC) held at Whittall Street Clinic.

The Abuse Survivors Clinic offers more specialist support, advice, and non-urgent medical care for anyone over the age of 13 who has been raped or experienced sexual violence or abuse at any time.

You can choose to be seen at any of our other clinics, but they may refer you to the ASC for the full range of services.
